Supporting the Environment

For 2008/09, IESA has also become a sponsor of Reef Catchments, supporting natural resource management work of on ground environmental improvements to the Mackay Whitsunday region. These include projects such as the Bushfire Consortium project, which maps out potential hot spots for bushfires which the rural fire brigades use to manage the potential of bushfire. It also includes other projects such as the Mackay Beaches Sustainable Landscapes Project. Run by Reef Catchments, this project works with local conservation, landcare and voluntary groups to complete on-ground works to the many Mackay beaches. Work includes weed eradication, native species revegetation to protect sand dune structure and stability and to protect turtle nesting areas.
